On strike for four months, they demand that their skills be better taken into account.
In white coats and masks, two thousand midwives again demonstrated in Paris on Wednesday February 19. On strike for four months, they are demanding that their skills be better taken into account, and better recognition of their status in the hospital.
On the blouses and the placards, one could read: “5 years of study, right of prescription, medical liability, 1,650 euros/month: look for the error” or: “gynecology + obstetrics = 1st resort for all healthy women!!!”. Some slogans are addressed directly to the Minister of Health, Marisol Touraine: “Tired of dropping his pants” or “Marisol, we are fed up”.
The collective of organizations at the origin of the strike would like hospital midwives to be able to leave the public service and obtain the status of hospital practitioner on the model of doctors. The unions of civil servants are hostile to this claim, synonymous with precariousness, according to them. Previous demonstrations had rallied between 4,000 and 6,000 people in November, and between 2,000 and 4,000 in December.
